WORTH PARK DISTRICT RECEIVES $600,000
OSLAD GRANT FOR DEVELOPMENT OF STAHLAK PARK
Stahlak Park, an approximate half-acre open space site, is located at the intersection of 111th Street and Natchez Avenue in Worth. The park was named in honor of Frank Stahlak, a community activist and the first President of the Park Board when the Park District was formed in 1965.
Established by the Illinois General Assembly in 1986, OSLAD (Open Space Land Acquisition and Development) is a cost-sharing program between state and local governments that helps communities fund land acquisition and development for parks and outdoor recreation projects. It’s become one of the most popular grant programs in Illinois. Since its establishment, OSLAD has awarded $640 million for park projects throughout Illinois.
The development for Stahlak Park will include a youth and adult fitness course, a plaza with shelter and seating, two pickleball courts and fencing. Pending the receipt of the grant contract from the IDNR, it is hoped that this development will begin and be completed in 2025.
